Mentorship over networking
Students should not solicit referrals, internships, or job leads.
Respect your mentor’s time
Mentors are here voluntarily - if you need to cancel or reschedule your call, please do so with at least 24 hour notice.
Find the right mentor
Some mentors might be better fit for your needs and questions. Take the time to identify and research the best one for you.
#1. Research your mentor
Before scheduling a call with your mentor, please review their Bio or LinkedIn profile to see if they align with what you’d like to discuss. Some questions to consider:

- Is this mentor in a position I want more insight about?
- Do they align in a field I’m interested in?
- If their work history stands out to me, what exactly do I want to know more about?
- What do I want to learn more about based off their talking points of interest?

Remember, by signing up for for a mentor’s slot, they are sharing 30 minutes of their time and that time could have gone to another student. Please ensure your appointment is made with clear intent and purpose.
#2. No solicitation
Please refrain from using BobaTalks' platform to request internships, entry-level roles, or early career opportunities from mentors or their companies.

While we understand the importance of your job search, mentors are here to guide students through the complexities of early career development—not to provide job referrals or leads. They joined with the assurance that they would not be approached for such requests.

At BobaTalks, our primary mission is to serve as a resource for students, helping them gain clarity and direction during their college and early career experiences.
#3. Reschedules, no-shows, cancellations
We understand that balancing studies, exams, projects, clubs, work, and personal relationships can be overwhelming. Life happens, and we’ve been there too.

If you’re unable to attend a scheduled meeting, please notify your mentor as early as possible—ideally with at least 24 hours’ notice. You can reschedule or cancel through LinkedIn, Calendly, or email. Mentors have been advised to end the session if a student doesn’t join within 5 minutes without prior communication.

Our mentors generously volunteer their time to support you. If plans change, please let them know—it goes a long way in respecting their effort and commitment.
#4. Meeting conduct
Be prepared!  Take some time to  conduct your research, compile questions, and have a game plan. While these meetings are casual, they’re also an opportunity to get valuable professional feedback and advice. Relax and be yourself—we want you to feel comfortable!

Try to minimize distractions, such as checking your phone or being in a noisy environment, to make the most of the session. If you find yourself running out of things to discuss, that’s okay—we’ve all been there. These conversations may feel a bit formal at first, but mentors are here to support and guide you.
